It is absolutely essential that every pathology resident own this reference text. However, it functions best as just that--a reference text. Use it to look up specific information. It is not a book to be read cover to cover. The writing is often tedious, superficial where it should be detailed, and exhaustive where it should be brief. The chapter on the adrenal gland is painful while the chapter on the hemoglobinopathies is quite useful. I suggest using Henry's to supplement your study from the ASCP's "Compendium" and use other textbooks to supplement your reading of Henry's when preparing to give a presentation or when looking up facts for signing out laboratory assays (such as protein electrophoresis/densitometry and hemoglobin HPLC).By thediener
It would be wonderful to see this book incorporated into the 1st and 2nd year medical school curricula along side Robbins' Pathologic Basis of Disease. The medical student entering their clinical years would benefit greatly having used this book as a reference text during their formative years in the classroom.
Overall, this book is essential but will often fall short of the residents specific needs. But there's really no getting around it either.
Has a lot of information, the print is small and the content is very "heavy", I do not enjoy reading this and find it overwhelming at times.By Jennifer Cook
