You can download Inside Out and Outside In: Psychodynamic Clinical Theory and Psychopathology in Contemporary Multicultural Contexts for everyone book mediafire, rapishare, and mirror link Over the past decade, Inside Out and Outside In has become a very important book among mental health practitioners in a variety of disciplines that deal with individuals in their complex social environments. Revised and updated throughout, the third edition builds on this foundation and adds a new chapter on cognitive behavioral theory and practice and a new chapter on relational and intersubjective theories to more fully meet the needs of both students and practitioners today. The third edition of Inside Out and Outside In maintains the book's respectful tone and empathetic voice while making many new additions. The chapter on affective disorders now includes bipolar disorders. Two other chapters update content on psychodynamic theory and race and gender. This edition also offers new research on schizophrenia and personality disorders. Other key updates include linking trauma theory with attachment, as well as attending to client systems, including couples, throughout the book. This new edition further deepens our understanding of the bio-psycho-social contexts in which clinical theory and practice occur, particularly in multicultural settings. It offers ways to clearly understand theories and clinical disorders in their biological and social contexts and provides key updates on new developments in the biopsychosocial domain. I originally purchased this book for a graduate level social work course and although the whole book wasn't assigned for reading I have found that I am now reading the book from cover to cover while on my summer break.

An assigned book has to be really good for me to want to read it for leisurely purposes.

The authors/editors do a great job of explaining the complexities of psychoanalysis and all the various theorists. They also take great care discussing the limitations of the theories and how certain ideas/explanations are built around a European-centric framework. This allows clinicians to make sure they don't take the "one size fits all" approach when describing the difficulties/troubles of clients. patients and consumers.

I definitely recommend this book for clinicians, students and really curious lay people.

Thanks for the authors for this forward thinking, comprehensive, authentically multiculturally aware text. I am a professor and practicing psychotherapist, and I have been teaching personality theory to graduate psychology students for years and have bemoaned the lack of texts that in any way reasonably acknowedge socio-cultural issues in a manner that is well integrated into the complicated task of introducing psychodynamic theories. Discovering this text was so refreshing, as I did not need to continually apologize for readings that were covertly sexist, racist, or homophobic, or just oblivious to these social issues. The content on race, culture, and gender, is relatively better developed than sexual orientation and transgender issues, which could use elaboration. The case examples generally are presented in a wholly balanced manner, modeling great empathy for a range of clients. The synthesis of psychodynamic theories with other theories, such as cbt is also welcome. This text is a step in the right direction, and I hope it is the beginning of a new birth in interest in psychodynamic therapy which can be of such enormous use to people across the human spectrum.
