This book was boring and not easy to read. I would not recommend getting it if you go to CSUDH in Carson CA. Instructor Green in BSN 460 does not even req you to use it. All the information you need can be found on-line.
By Wendy D Cygan
I am in an accelerated BSN program that stresses nursing research, which makes sense because without research nothing would be possible. For the papers I have had to write in other classes, this has been a text that I have had to review, especially for lit. review papers. It is almost too easy to read...wish it had more details too, which is why I downgraded a star.

A must have book for every nurse's library! Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care is the most comprehensive book of its kind. From nursing students to doctorally prepared nurses in clinical practice, education, research or administration, this book provides a wealth of information for all nurses. The U.S. health care system is changing at an unprecedented rate. It is important for nurses to be actively engaged in the political process which will determine health care delivery of the future. Policy and Politics in Nursing and Health Care will help nurses to learn about this process as well as how they can have a voice in shaping our health care system in order to provide quality, affordable and accessible health care for those in need.

By John S. Murray, PhD, RN, CPNP, CS, FAAN
This has been the best book for nurses on health policy since the first edition was published. It's been required reading for me and I have learned so much about how nurses can influence health care through policy and political action. The reviews that say this book is biased are so wrong - those readers must have missed the chapters about conservative nurses and what they've accomplished, the chapter that explains political philosophy, the chapter by Republican legislator Mary Behrens, and the chapter by Republican activist Elene Lopez Bowlan. This book presents many sides of important issues and is extremely balanced. It gets great feedback from students and nurses in practice that I talk to. No other health policy book that is for sale now comes close to offering what this book does. It is the best!

Great information but Very wordy. Some sentences are repeated again within the chapter. I don't see any significant changes with this edition compared to 3rd. If anything, I would have bought the 3rd

When I received my book, it was beat up and looked very rough. I had ordered a new book and it looked used. It needed to be sent in a different packaging than just a cardboard envelope.

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2—The piggies in Mrs. McNeal's class learn the difference between tattling and informing an adult in an emergency. After enduring a morning of students "squealing" on one another, the teacher explains that kids should try to work out their kid-sized problems themselves, but they should seek help when a more serious situation arises. When Mrs. M. falls down, the children take the appropriate action and call for help. Although the plot is contrived and the ending abrupt, readers will recognize the familiar-sounding accusations. The brightly colored cartoons are on target and add a touch of humor to the didactic text. A concluding note discusses common reasons why children tattle as well as ways to turn these episodes into teachable moments by using problem-solving skills. This book may be helpful for teachers and parents who need to deal with this particular nuisance.—Martha Simpson, Stratford Library Association, CT

The chapters in this book are either hit or miss. The book has some excellent well-written and informative chapters that really help you to gain a better perspective of the field and issues surrounding health research. However, the 3rd chapter reads more like a draft in need of several edits. It is rife with psychometric and statistical errors. Furthermore, the author makes gross generalizations about her own research that are not valid nor based on sound research practices. I'm shocked that the book could be full of quality work by leading professionals, yet have a chapter on that is on complete opposite side of the spectrum. The only thing that kept me reading the book is because it is required for a class I am taking. I would fully recommend removing ch.3 for the next edition, if the publishers asked my opinion.
By Kevin Linares
For anyone interested in theories of health behavior, this is the place to start. Some of the most commonly used theories are explained here in detail, and there is even an explanation for why the theories that are in there are included. However, sometimes while reading about the theories you wonder why there are so many words, when many fewer would do. Sometimes you might read a paragraph and think that you would have absorbed the information much better if, instead of that paragraph, you had read two sentences and a diagram.
Nonetheless, this is a great book to introduce you to common theories, and a great reference for a junior researcher working on intervention design or literature review.

Review

This is a well known textbook across the Atlantic, but UK readers may be less familiar with ti, even in its fourth edition. It is a handy paperback size...Nearly 750 pages are packed with fine print, in a multi-author text...I was impressed by the depth of coverage but, especially, by the topicality.

This is a well done, truly updated, revision...[A]ll chapters are modernised to include the latest diagnostic and therapeutic information...There is a new Anaesthetic and Paediatric ORL chapter, new work on transoral robotic surgery and, of particular interest to me, coverage of sleep apnoea. I have rarely learnt so much, in seconds of thumbing through a textbook, as I did reading about central sleep apnoea...[It] is ideal for fast access reference and revision on the flight to the exit exams! In practice I have opened this many times, picking subjects at random and found the writing style reader friendly throughout. --Liam M. Flood, FRCS, FRCSI, Middlesbrough, Journal of Laryngology & Otolaryngology (2013)

This is the fourth edition of a popular overview of topics in otolaryngology. The outline format of presentation provides an easy-to-read method to review the materials in a concise yet comprehensive fashion. The purpose is to provide a concise review of otolaryngology. Given the breadth of topics in this area, this book meets the objective of providing clinicians a compact source of quick reviews.

The audience is clinicians at all stages of their careers. Based on the popularity of previous editions, the authors have succeeded in providing clinicians with a credible and comprehensive reference.

The book concisely reviews rhinology, otology, laryngology, head and neck oncology, endocrinology, and facial plastics, with a chapter devoted to each division that highlights the most relevant pathologies, diagnostic methods, and treatment recommendations. This is a well-regarded essential reference in the field of otolaryngology. This new edition includes a new chapter in pediatric otolaryngology and continues to provide clinicians with easy access to a quick overview of the different areas of otolaryngology. Weighted Numerical Score: 93 - 4 Stars! --Kent Lam, MD, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, DOODY'S (2014)
