Genetics: Analysis and Principles is a one-semester, introductory genetics textbook that takes an experimental approach to understanding genetics. By weaving one or two experiments into the narrative of each chapter, students can simultaneously explore the scientific method and understand the genetic principles that have been learned from these experiments.

The author of this book clearly knows his stuff. But it reads like he's giving a monolog during the third day of a crack binge. It is so disorganized, I find myself having to read passages four or five times in order to establish a conceptual framework for the material being discussed. Look, I understand that genetics is an emerging science and that the field and sub-fields have a lot of big holes that are actively being filled in. But it is still possible to present the material in a straightforward and systematized fashion. Ugh... My advice to anyone who gets stuck with this book is to scan each section first, then read through one or two subheadings before you actually start reading a subheading critically and taking notes. And if your instructor requires you to know about the experiments that are discussed, skip those and go back to them later because they don't actually help you understand the other material. Then cross-reference any unclear points from another textbook, or the interweb.By Eric Days
Best selling genetics textbook for a reason. This made genetics an easy A for me. It takes the scary out of what many consider a difficult (undergrad) biology course. He leaves a lot of holes (that only an advanced genetics student would notice) but this text is meant for intro type genetics courses (still 4xx/4xxx level) not advanced genetics or human genetics. If you like Brooker's Biology textbook you'll enjoy this. Not sure why one reviewer thought it was poorly written/organized. Are you sure you are referring to his 4th edition? First 3 editions maybe, but not this one.By Justin
