This text discusses the various ethical dilemmas faced by veterinarians. It is comprehensive in scope and focuses on consideration of the client and patient in all decision-making. A section on high-tech procedures promotes awareness of the veterinarian's role and responsibility with state-of-the-art equipment, procedures and associated effects and costs. Case studies are included that allow readers to apply principles to real life practice situations. The author has worked with the AVMA to develop new curricular guidelines and practice standards, and lectures widely to veterinarians, medical researchers and the public on important ethical issues.

Too few schools address the ethics and business management practices of private veterinary medicine. I was lucky to have a crash 6wk course just before clinical year started and this was a book recommended to read. Lo, I find this book again and again, in libraries throughout the hospital services, with different parts looked through and highlighted... as if our clinical doctors page through it when they can and highlight the things that stand out...By Christen V McLean
Get your markers ready, some profound statements are made, and while this isn't a cover to cover, begging for more kinda book, it makes you think and definitely cements or knocks down long held convictions.
For me, this book spells out some things that I felt, but was unable to articulate.
This important book should be owned by everyone who cares about and for animals. It contains much food for thought for pet owners and veterinarians alike. If you haven't considered how Veterinary Ethics impacts on your life and the lives animals, you should read this book. If you have considered it, then you must read this book to further understand the issues. VETERINARY ETHICS, Animal Welfare, Client Relations, Competition and Collegiality by Jerrold Tannenbaum is more than a reference book, more than a text book - it's a work of utmost importance for everyone who cares about the animals around us, whether in our homes or elsewhere. This book deserves a prominent place in every animal lover's library.By A Customer
