I purchased this book to have a good "go-to" review book for neurology that I could feasibly stash in my bag and look things up or scribble notes in during my clerkship. This book is not for students who are just "trying to get by" in the neurology clerkship--it's really dense and meant for people with an interest in neurology beyond just acing the neuro questions on the Step 2.

That said, I loved this book. One great thing is that it mentions almost every neurologic disease my preceptors have ever brought up, even the really rare ones. For example, "stiff person syndrome" which is so rare that it was recently outlined in Case Studies of the NEJM is something I wouldn't have expected to see in this text, but a fairly detailed description was given and I was impressed.

Another great thing is the repetitiveness...there are some things that are very high yield, so the authors mention the same topic in several chapters throughout the book (eg Vitamin B12 deficiency causing subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord)--this is mentioned in the motor chapter as well as the sensory chapter. There is extensive cross-referencing in the book which is great because many neurologic diseases don't nicely fit into one category.

And finally, I liked that references were organized by topic at the end of every chapter, so if there's something I wanted to read further, I could easily find the original article referenced in the text.

I kind of wish there was a little more on imaging, especially PET scans which were fairly common in my neurology rotation. There is a chapter on "Laboratory Investigations" that has a decent overview of the mechanism behind and indications for imaging tests, but not a lot of info on how to read it.
