I normally get the smaller size but this time I tried the lab-coat edition. I like the incrementally better readability of the type and I REALLY like the addition of red type to highlight the indications. That alone makes rapid searching even easier. The other updates are as one would expect, FDA guideline updates, new drug entries, tweaking of tables etc. A note about the FDA, the Tarascon DOES include off-label dosings, but it's clear when you are doing that.
In any case, I've been picking up Tarascons every year for over a decade and I keep getting it as it has proved it's usefulness time and again. I am a military physician and have used this as a general medical officer, during deployments, as an OB/GYN resident, and as a hospital staff. Before everything went electronic, and before 'there's an app for that' happened, paper books were critical. Nothing beat the functionality of the Tarascon for rapid lookups for use in clinical situations. Plus, as a pocket peripheral brain, it's other huge advantage has been it's portability.
Now, as many of the peripheral brain functions have migrated to electronic databases, I have gotten much more choosy about what things I still get in paper. Tarascon wins as it still slips easily in any pocket plus there are times when flipping rapidly through a book is what is needed--it can be faster, it sometimes is what you need to jog your memory when you can't quite remember WHAT you are looking for, sometimes (particularly those of us with 'geographic' thinking/memory--we are the ones with the messy desks but can find anything) you need to see what is on the surrounding pages to find what you are looking for.
The other critical thing the paper books (aka tree-books) provide is access to information when (gasp!
