I'm currently an MPH student concentrating in infectious disease epidemiology. This book was required for my first infectious disease epidemiology course, and it quickly became a favorite that I will cherish forever. The text is exceedingly detailed, with excellent and thorough descriptions, useful graphics, and chapters written by leading experts in the field. How many textbooks can you honestly say you'd enjoy curling up with and reading for pleasure? Most are dry and sleep-inducing, while Dr. Nelson's text is as engaging as it is informative. The scope is broad and deep.

If you buy only one book on infectious disease epidemiology, make it this one.
(But really, do yourself a favor and also buy Giesecke's Modern Infectious Disease Epidemiology and the APHA's Control of Communicable Diseases Manual; these three books were made for each other.)
