Authors Denise Guinn and Rebecca Brewer have drawn on their 14 years of experience with the one-term course to write a textbook that incorporates biochemistry and organic chemistry throughout each chapter, emphasizes cases related to allied health, and provides students with the practical quantitative skills they will need in their professional lives.

Essentials of General, Organic, and Biochemistry captures student interest from day one, with a focus on attention-getting applications relevant to health care professionals and as much pertinent chemistry as is reasonably possible in a one term course. Students value their experience with chemistry, getting a true sense of just how relevant it is to their chosen profession.

'Essentials of General, Organic, and Biochemistry' is a great textbook. It includes many pictures, graphs, and other visuals. Also, there are practice problems, word definitions, and chapter recaps included in every chapter. Sometimes, it was a little hard to visualize the processes that the book discusses, but generally it was a good read. Of all my college textbooks, it was one of the more enjoyable ones to read.

My school is moving away from this text for their Intro to Chem class, and I think that is a very wise choice. The book does a passable job of laying out the bare bones basics of chemistry, but falls short when it comes to instructions on anything more complex such as conversions or calculating theoretical yields. I've never had to rely on Google as much as I did with this text.

Unless this is what your teacher demands, I'd look elsewhere where for an intro text.

I do, however, love the Amazon textbook rentals. Super affordable and super convenient.
