A must read for anyone with an injured horse. This book will expose you
to the whole world of physical therapy treatments utilized by physical therapist,
sports medicine doctors, body workers, and others in the human world which
therapists like Mimi Porter are applying to equines. History of these treatments,
covering over two decades, validates their effectiveness by the thousands of horses
successfully returned to pre-injured condition. It's important to note most of the
therapies discussed are not offered by standard veterinarian care. I particularly
like the incorporation for bodywork techniques, such as, cranialsacral and
myofascial release which offer more effective healing than traditional massage.
And if you want an alternative to injecting your horse with medication there is an
excellent section covering iontophoresis. Even though it is not a protocol book,
and finding someone that is trained in many of these methods can be difficult, it's the
individual awareness and knowledge that will create a demand for much needed equine therapists. Well written with many excellent photos make this an enlightening and enjoyable read.
By Deborah Powell
I found Ms Porter's book to be indispensably useful regarding Equine Sports Therapy, and also interesting to read. Each chapter focuses on a major theraputic modality, and discusses its basic scientific theory, techniques for proper use, and pros and cons. Ms Porter's holistic approach to Equine Therapy was much appreciated. Throughout her book she supports the horse as an individual, and stresses that each plan of treatment must be centered on that horse's individual needs, rather than just based on a manufacture's recommendation.
I would recommend this book to any Equine Vet, Therapist or Care-giver. It's a valued addition to my library.

I am a Vet Tech student. These flash cards are a great resource for Anatomy & Physiology labs. Not only are the parts clearly labeled with the common names of structures, but the reverse side of each card has an unlabeled version of the same sketch so you can drill yourself. I only wish I had discovered these earlier in my studies! Used them today in a dissection lab and my lab mates all wanted to know where I got them. This is definitely a great addition to the study arsenal and at a very reasonable price.
By A Customer
It's a little confusing that they chose to publish this set of flash cards as it is. Flash cards are supposed to function as a learning device, helping a student memorize a large body of terminology or concepts.
For instance, instead of putting all the names of the bones in a cat's jaw on one flash card and expecting students to memorize all at one go, there should be separate cards for each bone, so the student memorizes one thing at a time. That's how flash cards are supposed to work!
It was also be better if these cards were larger and if some of them were printed in color.

Cat owners can care for their felines from kittenhood to old age through a safe and natural system using the flower remedies created by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930s. This book explores how this healing therapy treats ailments with different flora and can be applied to cats to ease their mental stress, worry, and other emotional problems. Individuals can gain a closer understanding with their cats and spare them from unnecessary medications and drugs in the process. The book delves into the background of the 38 different Bach flower remedies and their applications in animal health, and it also addresses commonly asked questions about cat behavior.

This book helped me so much, in trying to find out why my cat was pulling her fur out. We, along with our Vet, had tried everything, and nothing seemed to work. A friend recommended I try Dr. Bach`s Rescue Remedy, that is used to calm people and pets. I tried it, and then bought this book from Amazon.com. I found answers I needed, in this book, and went to their web site to send an email, asking if they had a remedy for cats pulling out their fur. They recommended two remedies, which I ordered. My cat has finally stopped pulling out her fur, and seems much more happy now! This is a very helpful book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has cats.
By Sally LHuillier
I found this book when searching in desperation for something to help my 17 year old kitty who was fading. The book is beautifully written: clear, concise, easy to work with, and provides such helpful information one can get started immediately.

Thanks to the information and ease of access, my kitty has revived considerably and seems likely to stick around for a while longer.

The authors make it clear, very rightly, that Bach remedies do NOT address physical conditions. They do, however, support the emotional and energy resources that make healing achievable. In combination with good veterinary care this book is a goldmine.

(And the authors explain how the remedies apply to humans, too, so you are getting double-value!)

HIGHLY recommended

The IACUC Handbook
Posts about Download The Book The IACUC Handbook [Kindle Edition] for everyone book 4shared, mediafire, hotfile, and mirror link Ever since its establishment by USDA regulation in the mid-1980s, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee has evolved as the premier instrument of animal welfare oversight within research institutions in the U.S. Its mission, in part, is to ensure that investigators, research technicians, animal care personnel and others are adequately trained to conduct research with animals in a proper and humane manner. But equally important is that the IACUC itself be adequately trained with regard to the successful interpretation and implementation of regulations and guidelines for proper animal care and use.

The IACUC Handbook focuses on both basic and advanced concerns of those who participate in activities of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees. Exhaustive in its content and written by leading authorities in the field, this handbook addresses those questions and problems that often confront IACUCs, and gives accurate, succinct answers. Information is provided in "Question and Answer" format, with the authors offering their personal opinions against a background of regulatory information.

Under the "regulatory " heading, pertinent sections from such sources as the Animal Welfare Act and its regulations, the Health Research Extension Act of 1985, the Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and others are included. The handbook also provides the personal opinions of chapter authors and results from informal surveys as examples of the approaches institutions have taken to solve complex issues. While not scientific, the surveys provide the reader with additional opinions.

With the role and impact of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee expected to grow in scope and complexity, The IACUC Handbook provides a foundation for those attempting to understand and implement the many and varied responsibilities of this committee. Review

“This update... has a considerable amount of new information.... the author has succeeded in producing the definitive work on coat color in horses. This excellent book is unique in its field for its breadth and depth. The color photographs alone make it worth its moderate price. The new edition is necessary for anyone interested in the updated material on the genetics of coat color. I recommend it to horse breeders, animal scientists, and geneticists who are interested in a fascinating and convoluted topic.” Doody’s Reviews, September 2009

"A fascinating book, filled with color photos of really beautiful horse and donkey colors, some I never knew existed, and many unusual and beautiful breeds. In addition, there are numerous charts of color breeding expectations and effects of colors on colors." - Veterinary Information Network

“The latest advances in color genetics for breeders of horses, donkeys and mules provides a blend of science and owner's guide and provides vets and equine breeders with many specifics including discussions of five new colors.” - Midwest Book Review, July 2009

From the Back Cover

Equine Color Genetics, Third Edition, presents the most recent advances in color genetics for breeders of horses, donkeys, and mules. The book provides valuable information that enables breeders to tailor their breeding programs to maximize desired color outcomes and minimize undesired color. The text bridges the gap between the scientific and lay communities without ignoring the intricate and complex issues involved in horse and donkey color genetics. This new edition presents more explicit and detailed explanations than were previously possible, including a more extensive Appaloosa section. The section on donkey colors includes the results of studies in the genetic control of color in this species, which will greatly assist donkey breeders as they tailor breeding programs to their own goals.

If there was any one good book focusing on the genetics of horse color, this book is it! It's the best and most accurate book I have found on the subject, and it covers all equine colors from the basics to the more rare colors. A must have for anyone intersted in horse color research! It even includes donkey colors. HIGHLY RECCOMMENED!
By Jennifer Sneed
The topic of horse coloration has confounded breeders for centuries. Phil Sponenberg has taken a very complex topic and has broken it down into easily understood parts. The pictures grab you by the eyes and inspire equine artists as well as breeders. The various modes of inheritance were well explained and easily understood. The photos allow the reader to distinguish even fine points of difference between two animals. This book is a must for the serious horse person.

The second edition of Avian Immunology provides an up-to-date overview of the current knowledge of avian immunology. From the ontogeny of the avian immune system to practical application in vaccinology, the book encompasses all aspects of innate and adaptive immunity in chickens. In addition, chapters are devoted to the immunology of other commercially important species such as turkeys and ducks, and to ecoimmunology summarizing the knowledge of immune responses in free-living birds often in relation to reproductive success.

The book contains a detailed description of the avian innate immune system, encompassing the mucosal, enteric, respiratory and reproductive systems. The diseases and disorders it covers include immunodepressive diseases and immune evasion, autoimmune diseases, and tumors of the immune system. Practical aspects of vaccination are examined as well. Extensive appendices summarize resources for scientists including cell lines, inbred chicken lines, cytokines, chemokines, and monoclonal antibodies.

The world-wide importance of poultry protein for the human diet, as well  as the threat of avian influenza pandemics like H5N1 and heavy reliance on vaccination to protect commercial flocks makes this book a vital resource. This book provides crucial information not only for poultry health professionals and avian biologists, but also for comparative and veterinary immunologists, graduate students and veterinary students with an interest in avian immunology.

  • With contributions from 33 of the foremost international experts in the field, this book provides the most up-to-date review of avian immunology so far
  • Contains a detailed description of the avian innate immune system reviewing constitutive barriers, chemical and cellular responses; it includes a comprehensive review of avian Toll-like receptors
  • Contains a wide-ranging review of the "ecoimmunology" of free-living avian species, as applied to studies of population dynamics, and reviews methods and resources available for carrying out such research
